Because of Grace Moment: Hearken

Because of Grace Moment: Hearken–the moment when you realize a sublime word choice

“Then shall ye call upon me, and ye shall go and pray unto me, and I will hearken unto you.” Jeremiah 29:12 (kjv)

The moment we choose to pray and call on Him, He Hearkens to us

I pause over the word “Hearken”

Sometimes the elegance of the King James Version of the Bible just fits.

Hearken is synonymous with the word “Listen” but conveys a nudge toward action.

Listening with a ‘tude toward action. Actively Listening.

Isn’t that what all women want? Isn’t that what we all want?

We want to be heard and acknowledged with more than a nod or cursory blink.

Not to get too former English teachery on you, but it is also interesting for me to note that “Hearken” is labeled as an intransitive verb. Grabbing my digital chalk and writing on my digital blackboard in review, an intransitive verb is one that indicates an action complete on its own. It does not need any other action to complete it.

And Because of Grace, The Creator does that. The Creator of all does that for us when we call to Him.

His action to us, His care for us, His active listening, His hearkening to us is complete on its own. Nothing else is needed.

He hearkens when we ask, when we pray. (psst…“Ask” and “Pray” are a couple of transitive verbs…incomplete on their own, they are actions in transition. “Ask” and “Pray” need the transition to The Creator for their complete effectiveness.)

Because of Grace, He stays firm even though I may be in transition.

We say, “Give ear to my prayer, O God; and do not hide Yourself from my supplication. Give heed to me and answer me; I am restless in my complaint and am surely distracted…” Psalm 55:1-3 (nasb)

He says, ““I will hearken unto you.” Jeremiah 29:12
