Time Alone With God

Sometimes time alone for anything is a challenge for me. As soon as I settle down, serious thoughts crowd in. Nonsense thoughts fall into place too. And then menacing thoughts are not far behind.

Time Alone with God is possible! Some ideas from Rick Warren on building quiet time with God.

Start with focusing on God. My friend Carl says, “enjoy and acknowledge the blessings He has givenWhen you pray, you should pray like this, ‘Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name …” Matthew 6:7-9
Pray a prayer of surrender: stop trying to include God in your plans and instead ask God to include you in his. “May your kingdom come, may your will be done on earth as it is in heaven…” Matthew 6:7-9
Pray a prayer of trust: Lord, please help me know what’s important and what’s not important. Help me not to worry about not getting the unimportant things done.“You can be sure that God will take care of everything you need, his generosity exceeding even yours in the glory that pour from Jesus” Philippians 4:19
Pray a prayer of forgiveness: Settle Relational Issues, The prayer of forgiveness is the only way to get rid of the emotional garbage of guilt and resentment. Please remember to forgive yourself. “Those who are peacemakers will plant seeds of peace and reap a harvest of goodness” James 3:18
Pray A Prayer of Protection: God promises that he will always make a way out for you. Ask him for that protection every day. “Remember that the temptations that come into your life are no different from what others experience. And God is faithful. He will keep the temptation from becoming so strong that you can’t stand up against it When you are tempted, he will show you a way out so that you will not give in to it” 1 Corinthians 10:13
Pray A Prayer of Victory: It’s important to end your quiet time by thanking God for the ultimate victory. “I know the one in whom I trust, and I am sure that he is able to guard what I have entrusted to him until the day of his return” 1 Timothy 1:12
