This Weekend~Embrace the Odds

tballonlineThis weekend is the second weekend in the “High Holy Days” of Wimbledon. I love to watch the coverage, forwarding through the commercials and hoping for more than a parting glance at some doubles play.

Oddsmakers look forward to Wimbledon too. They set the percentage odds for all the players, based on their past performance.

This year these were the pre-tournament odds for four popular women’s players:

A. Radwanska……………………………….. 40/1 odds
M. Bartoli……………………………………..150/1 odds
K. Flipkens…………………………………..300/1 odds
S. Lisicki……………………………………….80/1 odds
Each of these women made it to the SemiFinals. Bartoli and Lisicki await tomorrow’s finals. Flipkens was too injured last year to even qualify for Wimbledon and her playing rank slipped to under the top 200.

These were the pre-tournament odds for the previous Wimbledon winners:
S. Williams………………………………………   2/1 odds
M. Sharapova…………………………………..  15/1 odds
V. Azarenka …………………………………….    7/1 odds
None of these women made it to the semifinals. They were eliminated in the early rounds by one of the women from the list above.

So, perhaps this weekend, it is a good idea to consider your odds. Consider the odds of a struggle, challenge, wish, or dream you face.

Consider the odds and then, Because of Grace, embrace those odds, wink at them … and twirl right passed them!

Because odds are based on the past. They are based on the remnants of yesterday. But, Because of Grace, God invites us to the future.

For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord. Plans to prosper you and not to harm you. Plans to give you hope and a future…I will be found by you. ~Jeremiah 29:11

The Lord replied, “I will personally go with you…and I will give you rest-everything will be fine for you.” ~ Exodus 33:14, NLT
