Monday Words for the Soul~June 30

Because of Grace, He uses even our errors to help us…

Money is tight; tuition is up, and taxes are due…Because of Grace, a mistake in math from 36 months ago, 36 months ago, resulted in an unknown higher account balance and funds can be disbursed.

36 months ago…is it a miracle that it turned out this way or is it a miracle that I am still incredulous and surprised by Grace?

We must cherish these things and not run our feet bare by chasing false securities which will not quench our thirst. ~Michael Cartwright, My Spiritual Walk with God

Midweek Question ~ Is it hard for you to believe?

Midweek Question: Is it Hard for you to … Believe?

me too sometimes

Todd Agnew

the most irksome guy at college was the guy who was so sure of his salvation.

was he irksome because he spoke the truth…or was he irksome because I did not want to believe it?
because I thought I needed to earn it?

Lyrics to The One You Want I can’t, let you see me, this way
How could you love me in my shame?
I fell, God I’m filthy again
Still I hear you call my name

[Chorus:]
It’s hard for me to believe
I could be lovely in Your eyes
That I’m really the one you want

It’s hard for me to believe
You would want me by your side
That I’m really the one you want
I’m really the one you want

I wish my stumbling finally would end
But I need your mercy once again
I’ve shed these years so many times
Still you pick me up and hold me tight

[Chorus]

And you love me, you love me
You love me still
You love me, you love me
And you always will, You will

(the one you want)
I’m really the one you want
(the one you want)

[Chorus]

It’s hard for me to believe
I could be lovely in Your eyes
I’m really the one you want
(the one you want)

It’s hard for me to believe
You would want me by your side
I’m really the one you want
(the one you want)

And you love me, you love me
You love me still
You love me, you love me
And you always will

You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart. ~Jeremiah 29:13 (niv)

You will look for Me intently, and you will find Me.~Jeremiah 29:13 (the voice)

A verse of comfort today containing two single syllable verbs: Look and Find.

No need to Look to odds-makers and bet on uncertainties.

No need to Find other sources of comfort.

Find Him in a comma, in the space after the open parentheses of Grace.

Because of Grace

This Weekend~Go on a Digital Detox~June 20

Go on a Digital Detox

“while we’re doing a digital detox we’re allowing our thoughts and conversations to get all the way to their conclusion” ~Frances Booth

What is a Digital Detox?

A digital detox is switching off all mobiles, smartphones, tablets, laptops, and computers for a certain length of time. Spend your screen-free time slowly reconnecting with your Grace and Bliss. Get outside–that is where the ultimate cognitive benefit awaits, according to this study from the University of Michigan. A digital detox is also a chance to recharge and rest, writes Booth in this post.

Although  recommends a minimum of 24 hours, any amount of time is a good place to start. Start small and unplugged for a little bit of scheduled time and then build on that success to longer amounts of time unplugged and un-digitized.

Happy Father’s Day 2014

The Lord is like a father to his children, tender and compassionate to those who fear him. ~ Psalm 103:13, NLT

U.S. Census Bureau: Father’s Day: June 16, 2013 http://www.census.gov/newsroom/releases/archives/facts_for_features_special_editions/cb13-ff13.html “The idea of Father’s Day was conceived slightly more than a century ago by Sonora Dodd of Spokane, Wash., while she listened to a Mother’s Day sermon in 1909. Dodd wanted a special day to honor her father, William Smart, a widowed Civil War veteran who was left to raise his six children on a farm. A day in June was chosen for the first Father’s Day celebration, June 17, 1910, proclaimed by Spokane’s mayor because it was the month of Smart’s birth. The first presidential proclamation honoring fathers was issued in 1966 when President Lyndon Johnson designated the third Sunday in June as Father’s Day. Father’s Day has been celebrated annually since 1972 when President Richard Nixon signed the public law that made it permanent.

Mid-week Question of the Week~June 11

This week’s question is rather direct and to-the-point since I am away at school this week.

Quite simply,

What is the middle letter of the word “pride”?

Humble Pie Because of Grace

Lots to ponder in this simple sentence…

Until next time…

Midweek Question of the Week~June 4~ Grace and Marshmallows Video

What does Grace have to do with marshmallows and videos? (that is not THE question, but A question).

In the video clip, several children are placed in a room with a marshmallow and told to wait and not eat the marshmallow. They are told that if they wait, then, as a reward for waiting, they will then receive two marshmallows. They will double their investment if they wait.

As a test for the merits of delayed gratification, perhaps this is a great test.

But, I am thinking of grace this morning. And I am wondering about grace and how we view it. How do we embrace grace?

Do I treat Grace as a marshmallow? I read that grace is a free gift. But does my sense of right and wrong mix together and come up with a non-compute? Do I decide it is safer to wait for grace? earn grace?

Spoiler Alert: the red-haired girl can’t wait. She immediately eats her marshmallow, picks up her plate and walks out of the room.

I love the red-haired girl. In the lens of grace, she has the right focus.

Must I wait for Grace? Or will I embrace grace?

For it’s by God’s grace that you have been saved. You receive it through faith. It was not our plan or our effort. It is God’s gift, pure and simple. You didn’t earn it, not one of us did…Ephesians 2:8-9
