Psalm 32: 8

Recently on a long road trip, I thought about this verse shared by one of my current graduate students and I and snapped this photo outside of Albany, Texas.

Psalm11824

Years ago, my Mother told me that she would read the Psalms when she was worried or anxious. Psalm 118:24 is one of the verses reminding us Who is In Charge.

Jonathan Edwards, the philosophical theologian from the Puritan era in American History, declared that “God is a communicative being.”

God communicates to us today. God provides for us today and always.

The Voice version communicates not only awe at all God has done for us, but also celebration and happiness! (Perhaps a little celebration and happiness is just what is needed now.)

This is the day the Eternal God has made;
    let us celebrate and be happy today.

mid-week surge of grace ~ Psalm 45:3

I will give you the treasures of darkness, riches hidden in secret places, so that you may know that I am the Lord, the God of Israel, who summons you by name. ~Isaiah 45:3 (NIV)

I will give you hidden treasures
        and wealth tucked away in secret places;
    I will reveal them to you.
        Then you will know that I am
        the Eternal, the God of Israel, who calls you by name.
~Isaiah 45:3 (The Voice)

Here are four reminders about this verse from Kay Warren:

  • God has concealed riches in the darkness of suffering.
  • God has the power to intervene in our darkness.
  • God will be close to us in our darkness.
  • What we know leads us to worship.

Today would have been my Dad’s 93rd birthday. His “go-to” sermon topic and Bible chapter was Romans 8. I will read this chapter again today in his honor. Each time I read this chapter, a new verse is bolded in my mind. This time it is verses 14 and 15.

14 For those who are led by the Spirit of God are the children of God. 15 The Spirit you received does not make you slaves, so that you live in fear again; rather, the Spirit you received brought about your adoption to sonship.[f] And by him we cry, “Abba,[g] Father.” ~Romans 8:14-15

 “For everything that was written in the past was written to teach us, so that through the endurance taught in the Scriptures and the encouragement they provide we might have hope” (Romans 15:4 NIV).

Jesus is Hope
