Fear is yuck personified. Overwhelming fear and worry result from living to please yourself instead of
living to please the Lord.
When we feel like our fears are the final authority, they guide our lives. But when we start to question our fears, we begin to realize they are not the final authority. God is.
The question isn’t whether you are or afraid or not, we are all fearful. Somewhere along in our life, we believed the lie that we cannot do something if we are afraid. But we can. And we do in other areas of our life: traffic, work, eating at fast-food restaurants. But something about some fears for each of us is particularly troubling. Often expectations are at fault. Mostly, at our core, we fear, not being enough.
A friend, Carl, teaches that an acronym for Fear is: False Expectations Appearing Real. Sometimes, when I journey to find the abarrent expectation, my triggers, if you will, the fear dissolves.
So, what to do with the fear?
When we’re afraid, we will probably choose one of three ways to respond:
1. to live with fear
2. to run from fear
3. or to face up to fear with faith
You are not stupid. You know which one will work the best. To live with fear is to resign yourself to it or constantly be combating it. But what is focused on, repeats and gains strength. And more importantly, it is not efficient.
To run from fear is cowardly. But more importantly, it will not work. It is counter-productive. Running away involves looking backward. Looking backward takes focus off of what is ahead. And it is easy to smack into a wall when looking back.
Or worse, a pillar of salt, ifyouknowwhatImean.
Only facing up to fear with faith and breath offers any lasting relief. And peace. Edit and Replace. Our minds cannot hold two thoughts at once. Edit what you feel and replace with truth (Stop/Breathe/Recall a verse/Slow way down/Repeat a verse of truth). After awhile a plan of attack will permeate and fear begins to wilt in the permanent light of truth.

Faithful confrontation helps to renew my mind and change my thoughts. It also exposes the lie behind the false expectation.
Your fears reveal where you do not trust God. Today, make a list of your fears, and ask God to help you identify why you have fear in those areas. Then, ask him to help you replace your fears with trust.
Now, this is important: expect God to start helping you learn to trust him with each fear. Then, watch to see how he helps you. ~Rick Warren
