a word from The Sponsor ~ January 19

One of my graduate students shared the Serenity Prayer as her “Go-To” sentiment.
The Serenity Prayers combines many verses from the Bible:

And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus ~Philippians 4:7
(Previous B-o-G post)

Be still and know that I am God!  ~Psalm 46:10
(Previous B-o-G posts)

Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the LORD your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you.  ~Deuteronomy 31:6
(Previous B-o-G posts)

Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight. ~Proverbs 3:5-6
(Previous B-o-G posts)

For the Spirit God gave us does not make us timid, but gives us power, love, and self-discipline
~2 Timothy 1:7

What verse(s) do you see echoed in the Serenity Prayer? Might you share them in a Comment?

Here is the longer version of the Serenity Prayer:

The Serenity Prayer Long Version

by Reinhold Niebuhr, 1934/1950

God grant me the serenity

To accept the things I cannot change;

Courage to change the things I can;

And wisdom to know the difference.

Living one day at a time;

Enjoying one moment at a time;

Accepting hardships as the pathway to peace;

Taking, as He did, this sinful world

As it is, not as I would have it;

Trusting that He will make all things right

If I surrender to His Will;

So that I may be reasonably happy in this life

And supremely happy with Him

Forever and ever in the next.

Amen.
